Dictionary-buying Tip

If you are buying a Zemblan-English/English-Zemblan (substitute “Zemblan” with whichever foreign language you are learning) dictionary, one way to find out if it is an old, unrevised skeleton in a spiffy new jacket (thanks to unscrupulous publishers) is to first find out the word for “tuberculosis” in that foreign language from a reliable source and then look it up in the dictionary you are about to buy. If the only translation is “consumption”, you know it hasn’t been revised in a while. Unless you have poetic leanings or belong to the Society for Creative Anachronism, you might want to search for something else.
