Spellings Confirmed by Senate
Margaret Spellings, Bush nominee for Secretary of Education, was confirmed late yesterday by the Senate. An avid supporter of the 'No Child Left Behind' initiative, Spellings said in Senate hearings she felt schools needed a no-nonsense approach, adding "I'll bring my experience as a mother to the job."
When pressed further on this point by Sen. Clinton, Mrs. Spellings replied, "Listen, I know many kids are out there copping a smoke between classes behind the band building. Just tell them they're on notice. I could drive by at any time, and then they're in for it. And that monkey-business on bus route #33 in McLean, Virginia-- give the geek his lunch money back. Or else."
